letters to our children. february

it’s time for another blog circle of: letters to our children (february). this time i’ll be writing to garrett. follow the link below to check out my friend laurie next & make your way around the whole circle!

to my hilarious, loveable, sweet, snuggly, (did i mention hilarious?) garrett…

you are awesome. you know exactly just what to say to make me laugh. even when you have done something potentially mischevious, you never fail to totally redeem yourself by coming up with something completely random just at the perfect moment (such as “mom are sea anenomes alive in this town?”). thank you for keeping me laughing.

you, my love, will be ANYTHING you want to be in life. you’re smooth…funny…smart…cool…handsome…and AWESOME. when you encounter things in your life that are hard for you, please don’t let it get you down, push through them. if anyone ever tries to pick on you because something is challenging for you…who cares. keep your head up. remember YOU ARE AWESOME. you can be ANYTHING.

so…right now you want to be a “toilet fixer guy” who lives at home forever & never moves away. and you know what? that is TOTALLY fine with me, love. thinking about the day you are old enough to leave our house makes me sad anyway. you say you want me to come to college with you…somehow i don’t think you will still want that when you’re 18, but if you do…i promise i will come visit you alot because I. LOVE. YOU. every inch of who you are. i cherish every single moment even the challenging ones. i love you NO MATTER WHAT. never forget that.

“they” say that there is nothing like a relationship between a mother & a daughter & i’m sure “they” are right, but i’m also sure the person who made up that saying never had a son like you. you are everything i could have ever dreamed of in my first child…you are growing into such a beautiful human being with a HUGE heart. you love those who are special to you wholeheartedly & are passionate about the things you enjoy. one thing i know is that you love me. how do i know? because you tell me everyday. it’s not just a habitual “love you” you always let me know in the most, beautiful, unique way possible & i can’t thank you enough for making me feel so special, for loving me, & for being my garrett.

when you were a baby i was so attached to you & was the happiest when i was with you…i started calling you “my littlest best friend” because i had so much fun with you that it felt like i was hanging out with my best friend! well you’re not so little anymore at 43 lbs, 4.5 years old….you are smart & you love non-fiction books with facts. you are curious & inquisitive. you’re a deep thinker & are very sensitive. you wear your heart on your sleeve. you are FAST. i used to let you win when we raced, but not i can’t beat you when i try. you love pancakes & syrup. you appreciate & are thankful. you love movie night & game night. you’re happiest when we’re all together. me, too. and you know what? at four years old, i STILL call you my best friend. thanks for making me feel that way little buddy.

love,
mom

p.s. i love you more (more than all of the hairs on all of the dogs in all of the world….beat that!)
